ABOUT
Background
Milliner Victoria Grant is a Great British fashion stalwart, celebrating her brand’s 20th anniversary in 2025. Victoria’s work reveals a carnival of influences: Britishness, above all; high jinks and hedonism; pop, punk and military motifs, played out in a realm where feminine and masculine meet. One minute the Grant muse is tipping her hat to tradition, the next crowning herself a subversive style siren.
Karl Lagerfeld, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Isabel Marant, Temperley, Clements Ribeiro, and Stephen Webster have all showcased Grant’s artistry. Beyoncé’s poster for her 2014 world tour saw Queen B wearing Victoria’s “Dark Horse” (£2,579), a veiled, jet-beaded top hat. Madonna summoned Grant’s “Blinkie” (£1,858), a lipsticked and lashed white topper, for her 65th birthday.
Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Zöe Kravitz, Sienna Miller, Helena Bonham-Carter, Dame Joan Collins, Annie Lennox, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, Lauryn Hill, Solange Knowles, Beth Ditto, Rita Ora, Paloma Faith, Dita von Teese, and sundry supermodels have all sported Victoria’s confections, which also featured in fashion favourites Ugly Betty and the Ab Fab movie.
In Grant’s hands, millinery becomes not conformist, but a source of pure creativity. Our heroine’s penchant is for party pieces: excuses to trip off into fantasy. The wearer may be a pop diva seeking a striking tour image, or race-goer looking for summer season sophistication. Grant’s clients are Britain’s – and the world’s – most stylish women: whether in quest of off-the-peg pieces, or diving headfirst into couture.
Victoria won an art scholarship to progressive boarding school Frensham Heights, near Farnham, Surrey, surrounded by rock-star offspring. Her mother, Mary-Anne, is a multi-media artist, forever crafting. Her father, Michael, was a proud Pikeman, instilling her with patriotism and a love of military regalia. Grant’s reach may be global, but Britishness is at her core.
Grant started her career as a stylist. Unable to find headpieces for a Pearly Kings and Queens shoot, she made her own; teaching herself to mould and sew for her 2005 debut collection. Her brand found its first home at Sam Roddick’s original Coco de Mer erotic emporium. Here her work progressed into exquisite boudoir masks bedecked with chains, tassels, piercings, and lavish ornamental Mohicans.
Over two decades, Victoria’s house signatures have become instantly recognisable: cinched and netted ladies’ top hats; jewelled perchers with crystal champagne veils; roguishly ringed Princess Alberts; lofty cocktail numbers, feathers set in two-fingered salutes; fierce feminine fedoras; coruscating cowgirl confections; and coquettish cocktail berets bearing the illuminated legends: “Disco,” “Peep Show,” and “Girls, Girls, Girls”. Grant’s styles are named after their hat blocks: so many almonds, orbits, satellites, kisses, minxes, Hepburns and Bellinis.
Grant’s designs are priced from £420 to £3,000 for ready-to-wear, and from £1,200 to £10,000 (and beyond) for couture. The majority of her work is couture, conjured over fizz-fuelled consultations at her Notting Hill atelier. She also sells at Harrods and online at victoriagrant.com.

“She has dressed the trendiest heads of fashion: from Dolce & Gabbana to Dita Von Teese. So many celebrities are hat-addicts and appreciate Grant's style never missing a chance to show off one of her creations”
- Vogue Italia
“I've met a few mad hatters in my time. Some make hats, some look good in a hat and others become synonymous with their hat. None of them have combined the milliners craft, an impeccable sense of the potential of hats and a wicked sense of humour quite like Victoria. Collaborating with Victoria 'mad hatter' Grant has been a joy, a laugh out loud and above all, kept my head warm.”
- Stephen Webster
“Victoria Grant’s head pieces are the perfect balance between tradition, handcrafting and British sophisticated yet provocative elegance. They perfectly embody the modern rock’n roll twist of my latest collection.”
- Isabel Marant
